Description:

This year we are incorporating the Buddy Study Spelling system. The practice allows children to pick their own spelling words based on the phonics lesson that is being taught at that time. When students pick their own words they are more involved and eager to learn how to spell them. Here is what it will look like in class weekly:

Monday: children will pick their own spelling words from a pre-approved list. They will then "mix and fix" their new words with magnetic letters (or something similar).

Tuesday: this is "Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check" day. They will look at their word, say it, cover it up while they write it, and then check it.

Wednesday: students will make connections to ther word through a variety of means like: rhyming, alliteration, similar sounds, hole punching, and many more.

Thursday: this will be the pretest day. They will take the pretest in their spelling folders with a buddy. They will then highlight the words they missed so they can practice more at home.

Friday: Test Day!

Spelling Homework:
Students will go home with a spelling folder nightly. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday they will be following directions on the "tic tac toe" worksheet. One square should be done per day. Return the folder to school DAILY.
