At Abercrombie Academy, we foster a love of learning through a variety of hands-on, practical applications. We strive for excellence inside and outside of the classroom while promoting good citizenship and are extremely proud of our students’ academic, artistic and extra-curricular achievements. Our students participate in a variety of competitions including:
With 19 contest categories covering a wide range of disciplines in 59 academic contests, Private Schools Interscholastic Association (PSIA) provides an exciting opportunity for private school students in grades 1 through 8 to engage in academic competition with their peers throughout the state of Texas. PSIA remains the most comprehensive academic extracurricular program in the nation for students in grades 1-8. In 2004, Abercrombie Academy won the statewide academic competition.
In 2014, we became affiliated with the prestigious Duke University 4th-6th Grade Talent Identification Program. This program identifies students who score in the 95th percentile or above on a grade-level standardized test. Participants in the program discover and explore their academic talents and interests, gain a deeper understanding of their academic skill and potential, develop their critical and creative thinking skills, and become a part of a peer communities that celebrate learning.
In 2014 and 2015, 90% of Abercrombie 4th and 5th grade students scored in the top 5th percentile in the nation on the Iowa Tests and have subsequently qualified for the Duke Talent Identification Program. The Iowa Tests (ITBS) are nationally normed standardized tests offering educators a diagnostic look at how students are progressing in key academic areas.
Abercrombie Academy participates in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. We hold a campus spelling bee among our 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade students and the overall winner then represents our school in the private school district spelling bee.
Every Elementary student takes weekly instructional art lessons in our Art studio with our extremely talented Art Instructor. Our students’ artwork is regularly featured in local and regional art competitions and art displays including: the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest, the Texas General Land Office’s Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest, Tomball College, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Art to name a few.
For numerous years, our students’ creative writing and poetry entries have been published by The Greensheet, Poetic Power and Creative Communications.
